Why was Rustichello in jail?

Rustichello da Pisa, an Italian writer and romance author, was imprisoned in the 13th century due to his involvement in political conflicts in Genoa, where he was accused of supporting a rival faction. During his imprisonment, he met the famous traveler Marco Polo, and the two collaborated on recounting Polo's adventures, which eventually became known as "The Travels of Marco Polo." Rustichello's writing played a significant role in preserving and popularizing Polo's stories.
