George Washington (the 1st President of the United States) was in power from April 30, 1789 - March 4, 1797. Washington proved an able administrator. An Excellent delegator and judge of talent and character, he held regular cabinet meetings to debate issues before making a final decision. In handling routine tasks, he was "systematic, orderly, energetic, solicitous of the opinion of others but decisive, intent upon general goals and the consistency of particular actions with them." He died on December 14th 1799 at the age of 67 in Mount Vernon, Virginia, United States and was succeeded by his Vice President John Adams.
