The Beveridge Report (Report of the Inter-Departmental Committee on Social Insurance and Allied Services) was the setting down of measures to reform England's economic situation after World War II. Economist William Beveridge proposed that the five 'Giant Evils' of Want, Disease, Ignorance, Squalor and Idleness, should be beaten back by "new and better" economics. His Report gave a plan, and the practices it suggested, with the British citizen being "taken care of" by the government "from cradle to grave", became national policy. The state was so heavily burdened by this that many accepted the idea that England became a "Welfare State" with a large number of individuals "living off the dole" as it is said. Got links. Why not use them?
