The Eyam plague, also known as the Great Plague of Eyam, began in 1665 when a trunk of cloth arrived in the village from London, bringing the Bubonic Plague with it. The first recorded death occurred in September 1665, and the outbreak continued until 1666, resulting in the deaths of a significant portion of the village's population. Eyam is notable for its decision to quarantine itself to prevent the spread of the disease to nearby communities.
