How long does it take to become an FBI agent?

You need a bachelor's degree and preferably a master's degree, preferably in a subject area that the FBI prizes. These would be public accounting, chemistry, Biology, forensics, etc. One or more foreign languages will help. An absolutely clear record going back to your juvenile days helps. Making sure that no one can say that you have abused drugs or alcohol or are in any way not to be trusted is essential. Making certain you are completely correct in your work and educational history is essential. Staying clear of large debts. Not gambling. Not associating with gangs or criminal associations. The FBI wants you to be clean, trustworthy, intelligent, honest, reliable, and accurate in all things.
