Carbon monoxide (CO) does not react significantly with aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH) because it is a stable, non-polar molecule that does not readily participate in reactions with strong bases. In contrast, CO can react with hydrochloric acid (HCl) under specific conditions, but generally, it does not undergo a straightforward reaction with HCl either. Therefore, while CO is largely unreactive with both, it does not preferentially react with sodium hydroxide over hydrochloric acid.
