What did Spartacus do in the roman empire?

Spartacus was a Thracian gladiator who led a major slave revolt against the Roman Republic known as the Third Servile War (73-71 BC). He initially escaped from a gladiatorial school and gathered a large following of escaped slaves and discontented workers. Spartacus achieved several significant victories against Roman forces but ultimately was defeated.
