Can geese and ducks mate and produce offspring?

Geese and ducks are both waterfowl but belong to different genera, which typically makes interbreeding unlikely. While there are rare instances of hybridization between certain species of geese and ducks, such as the cross between a domestic duck and a wild goose, these hybrids are usually sterile and unable to produce viable offspring.
