What is the general history of Ascension Health?

Ascension Health is a Catholic non-profit health care system that operates in the United States. It was founded in 1999 by the Daughters of Charity National Health System. There are several different Catholic health systems that have merged together to create Ascension Health over the years, most recently in 2012.
