Yes, Lyme disease can recur, but this typically occurs in two ways: through reinfection with the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi or as a result of lingering symptoms after initial treatment, known as post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome (PTLDS). Reinfection can happen if an individual is bitten by a tick carrying the bacteria again.
