Harold Hughes (born February 10, 1922 in Ida Grove, Iowa; died October 23, 1996 in Glendale, Arizona) succeeded Norman Erbe as the thirty-sixth Governor of Iowa, serving between January 17, 1963 and January 1, 1969. Following the end of Hughes' term as Governor, Robert D. Fulton (born May 13, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa) became the thirty-seventh Governor of Iowa, serving between January 1, 1969 and January 16, 1969. Following the end of Fulton's term as Governor, Robert Ray (born September 26, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa) became the thirty-eighth Governor of Iowa, serving between January 16, 1969 and January 14, 1983.
