To disengage the rearview mirror from a 1999 Acura TL 3.2, please pay attention to the following instructions:
Potentially Helpful Equipment:
Trim tools or flathead screwdrivers
Phillips or Torx screwdrivers (depending on the used screws)
Allen wrench (for some mirrors set screws)
Procedure:
Examine the Mounting Location:
Check the mirror's base in relation to the windshield. Acura TLs from this era mostly employ a wedge-style mount onto a metal button adhered to the windshield.
Try to Identify a Set Screw:
Inspect the sides and bottom of the mirror holder for a tiny screw. Most likely it is a Torx or Allen (hex) set screw used to fasten the mirror to the mounting bracket.
Untight the set screw:
With the proper tool, set loose the set screw. A quarter turn should suffice.
Turn counterclockwise.
Adjust the Mirror Position upwards:
With the screw in a relaxed position, securely pull up the mirror towards the ceiling of the car.
If it’s been on for decades, some force may be required, but please do not pull or twist, as this will likely fracture the windshield.
If Relevant: Disconnect All Wiring
In the case that your TL is equipped with an auto-dimming mirror, ensure that the electrical connector is detached before completely taking off the mirror.
Tips:
If the mirror is difficult to detach, gently shimmy it back and forth while lifting it upwards.
Watch out for windshield damage caused by excessive prying.
