Alevins, which are young fish that have recently hatched from eggs, typically stay in their natal habitats, such as streams, rivers, or lakes, where they find shelter among rocks, vegetation, or substrate. They remain close to the bottom to avoid predators and rely on their yolk sac for nutrition until they are ready to begin foraging for food. As they grow and develop, alevins gradually transition to more open waters.
