Roy Lichtenstein became interested in both art as and design as a hobby while attending Manhattan's Franklin School for Boys. He loved jazz and went often to the famed Apollo Theater of Harlem. He began drawing portraits of the musicians playing their particular instruments.
Once he had graduated from Franklin Boys School, he went to summer classes at the Art Students League of New York and studied under Reginald Marsh. He next went to Ohio State University since they offered a degree in fine arts program.
