How does the Bible revelation say the world will end?

It says the world will end by fire. Many Christians (myself included) will not necessarily take that literally. I don't think Revelation is meant to be taken literally as it is riddled with symbolism. For example, consider Rev. 6:13 "the stars of the sky fell". The earth could never survive that, so I think it's just symbolic of terrible things that will happen.
