I just read something on this the other day. It'll take more research but I think I remember the literature saying LLC (Logical Link Control) sublayer. Which makes sense. LLC is more involved with communicating with logical addressing and the communication that takes place with the layer above it (layer 3 "Network"). I'm pretty sure this is where the drivers come in.
