What was Augustus appeal to the roman senate and to the roman people?

Augustus' appeal to the senate was his military power. He won the last of the civil wars which brought down the Roman Republic, gained control of all the legions of the Roman army and became the sole ruler. The senate could not do anything against his military power and had to allow him to establish his absolute personal rule, to turn the senate into an instrument of his power and to pretend that the senate still mattered in the new political system he created.

Augustus' appeal to the Roman people was his Propaganda use of the fact that he was the adoptive son of Julius Caesar. They saw him as the man who would uphold Caesar's legacy.
