What is the problem and the solution in the city of ember?

ive seen the movie the city of ember is a underground city it has problems with light and there are blackouts often,the people of city of ember are also running out of supplies like food etc. Like 3 or 2 kids try to get out of the city with incredible secrets they get out from the city to a genrator then they go up and up and up with water :)
