Befana, the Italian folklore character associated with the Epiphany, is often depicted as a kind old witch who delivers gifts to children. Traditionally, she is said to enjoy eating a variety of treats, especially sweets like candy and pastries. In some regions, children leave out a glass of wine or a plate of food, such as a slice of cake or cookies, as offerings for her during her visit on the night of January 5th.
