What is the definition of infection?

When a parasite is growing and multiplying within or on a host, the host is said to have and infection. An infection may or may not result in overt disease. An infectious disease is any change from a state of health in which part or all of the host body is not capable of carrying on its normal functions due to the presence of a parasite or its products.
