Is it safe to take apart a double a battery?

I have done it before, but that was with a dry cell battery. You may want to consider if there is battery acid in there, and if the chemicals you take out are poisonous. The battery that I had was filled with a very dark, black soot around a blue sandy like capsule. There was a nail that poked into the battery and collected the charge.

YOu may want to completely discharge the battery properly because you can make a spark and/or get a shock.
