Why deserts are always seen on the western side of the country?

Not all deserts are on the western side of the country.

The vast Gobi Desert covers the northwest of China and the Southern area of Mongolia.

In an atlas showing China, the Gobi desert is definitely in the north, not on the western side.

• Africa: The Sahara Desert runs across the northern part of Africa not down its western side.

• Algeria: The Sahara desert covers the southeastern parts the country of Algeria.
• Eritrea: The country of Eritrea is fertile on the west. The desert areas are on the east. Their Danikil Desert is situated in the northeast of the country.
• Sudan's Nubian Desert is in the northeast of the country.

The Arabian Desert covers most of Saudi Arabia and is not confined to the western side. The Arabian Desert is also known as the Eastern Desert, because it starts on the eastern side of Africa.

• Kazakhstan's Kyyzyl-Kurn Desert is in the south of the country. Their Moyynqum desert is distinctively in the centre of their country, whereas their Betpaqdala desert is in eastern Kazakhstan.

The Chihuahuan Desert, North America, is not on the western side of the US, it is in the south.

As far as Mexico is concerned, the Chihuahuan Desert covers the central north of the country, and more of it lies on the east of the country than on the west.

The Patagonian Desert reaches the Atlantic Ocean on its eastern boundary, but nowhere does this desert reach the western shores (Pacific) of South America. Its western side stops at the Andes mountains, so more of this desert covers the eastern side than the western side of that part of the earth. It stretches to Chile, but it is more on the eastern side of Chile, not the western side.

• Israel: The Judean Desert is in eastern Israel.
• Pakistan: The Thar Desert covers the southeastern part of the country.

CONCLUSION: While it is true that many deserts are seen on the western sides of countries, it can also be seen, on the basis on the evidence provided above, that deserts, where they occur, are not always located on the western sides of the countries in which they are found.
