When you mix Clorox in water is it safe for drinking?

It depends on the amount of bleach. Bleach is a powerful chlorine disinfectant and drinking it can cause severe injury or death. But a tiny amount is often used to purify contaminated water.

Bleach is used to kill bacteria in RV water tanks, and when there is no other way (such as boiling) to make water safe for drinking. About 8 drops per gallon (maximum of 16 drops per gallon) should kill most harmful microorganisms in the water. This is comparable to the chlorine used in Swimming Pools, and the chlorine taste can be reduced by aeration, or by pouring liquid back and forth between glasses.
