The constellation name of Aquarius may drive from nearby constellation of Aquila (the eagle). One version of the myth of Ganymede has the youth carried off by Zeus (in eagle form) to become the cup bearer of the gods.

Another suggested origin is that the "river" between Aquarius and Capricornus represents one of the labors of Hercules, the diversion of the river to clean the Augean stables.
