How do city police chiefs get hired?

Start at the bottom, gain as much experience as possible as you mature in your career, get as much education as you possibly can, and work your way to the top. Many times senior superviOSors/managers of larger departments will have to leave their departments or retire and become Chiefs of smaller cities or municipalities.
