What is analyzed in discourse analysis?

Discourse analysis broadly include an examination of the written or verbal Words and language used to describe something. One of the more popular forms of discourse analysis is text/context analysis where Word choice is examined. The question may be why did a person use this particular Word in this context rather than that?
