How many people are murdered in the UK every year?

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the Scottish Consortium for Crime and Criminal Justice and the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI) there were 619 murders in the whole of the UK over the 2013/2014 financial year period. The murder rate per person has been slowly decreasing over the last ten years.
