Why did the US drop the atomic Bonn and on Japan?

The United States dropped atomic bombs on Japan in August 1945 primarily to expedite the end of World War II and minimize further casualties. The bombings of Hiroshima on August 6 and Nagasaki on August 9 aimed to force Japan's unconditional surrender. The U.S. government believed that demonstrating the devastating power of the atomic bomb would deter a prolonged ground invasion, which was expected to result in significant loss of life on both sides.
