The holiday that began in 1966 is Kwanzaa. Created by Maulana Karenga, it was established to celebrate African American culture and heritage. Kwanzaa is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving. Each day focuses on one of the seven principles known as the Nguzo Saba.
