What is the connection between the British Royal Family and the Russian Royal Family?

the Russian tsar nicholas the second was the first cousin to george the fifth as he married princess alix of hesse-darmstadt who was the grand-daugther of Queen Victoria. They had family holidays together but during the Russian revolution the King of England (George the fifth) refused to give the family a safehaven over the fear of an English revolt.
