How to tell when someone is fake-crying:
-The first thing they do is weep and wail, attempting to make crying sounds. People who are truly crying over something upsetting usually take a minute to build up the tears and will gradually become louder. The only exception is when the person has just been given heart-wrenching, terrible news- that is a reason to wail uncontrollably and immediately, otherwise, the person is faking.
-They will usually bury their face in their hands or over a surface with their arms around their head; this behavior suggests that they are attempting to hide their faces because they are not producing tears. If they were actually crying, they may bury their face in their hands, but not immediately; real crying also includes a lot of sniffling and difficulty breathing, along with occasional wails.
On a related note, always make sure that if someone is actually crying, you should stay with them, especially if they are depressed, have anxiety, have great difficulty breathing, or are suicidal, because when they are crying, their emotions are guiding their actions and thoughts, so they could be a danger to themselves and others if they are left alone. It is also mentally and emotionally distressing on someone who suffers alone, so try your best to make sure they are not alone when they become upset or worried.
