Where did we get Hawaii from?

Hawaii became a U.S. territory following its annexation in 1898, largely driven by American economic interests in sugar and the strategic military importance of the islands. The overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893 by American sugar planters and their supporters facilitated this process. Hawaii was officially admitted as the 50th state of the United States on August 21, 1959.
