In 1831 why did the French mob destroy a room full of sewing machines?

A French innovator and taylor, Barthelemy Thimonnier, created one of the first effective sewing machines. He used them to make uniforms. The mob were other taylors that feared he would put them out of business, so they wrecked his machines. He rebuilt and they did it again.
