Why was makamisa not finished?

Makamisa, a novel by Jose Rizal, was left unfinished because the author was arrested and eventually executed by the Spanish authorities before he could complete it. Rizal's focus shifted to writing other works and his involvement in the Philippine Revolution led to his untimely death in 1896.
