Analogies develop higher level thinking skills. They encourage learners to look at a relationship between 2 Words. The learner then looks at a third Word and provides a 4th Word related to Word #3 in the same way that Words 1 and 2 are related. Some of the relationships between the Words include: * whole-parthand (is related to) finger like foot (is related to) toe. hand = Word 1, finger = Word 2, foot = Word 3 , toe = Word 4 * part-whole (the reverse of above) knee - leg as elbow-arm * object-functionpen-write as fork-eat * synonymsbig-large as small-tiny * antonyms healthy - sick as early - late There are several more types of relationships. I gave you some basic ones. If you need further help, contact me through the message board. (francepa)
