How much oil in a 1998 Yamaha vmax?

4 quarts with filter is what i use on my 99, fill it, run, shut it off, and check that the oil level is between the lines cast into the case beside the sight glass. it may take a minute or so after it was running for oil level to show true .i will also add that it is not uncommon for a vmax under hard acceleration for the oil light to come on or flicker, this is normal and is due to the oil being forced to rear of engine, and the oil level light can flicker, the sump is in rear of engine and will still be circulating
