Between March 1998 and April 1999, approximately 1.5 million people were forced to flee Kosovo due to the conflict and subsequent humanitarian crisis. This mass displacement was primarily a result of violence and ethnic cleansing conducted by Yugoslav and Serbian forces against the ethnic Albanian population. Many sought refuge in neighboring countries, while others were internally displaced within Kosovo. The situation culminated in a significant international response, including NATO's military intervention in March 1999.
