After you die do you first go to the white throne of judgment?

Yes. You either go to Heaven or to Hell depending on what kind of life you lived when you were alive.

If you will read in The Bible in the book of Revelations, you will see the order of how things go. The fact is that the white throne of Judgement is at the time of the determination for the whole world. Those who have made a commitment to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will probably at that time receive His blessings, and recognition i.e. the 'rewards of ones faith in Him'. Those who have not made a life commitment to Him will find out that there really is a Hell, and a Lake of Fire where all who have not believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will find that they will have eternal punishment for their not choosing Him . IT is a choice that is made while one is living, and can't be made after that. Those who have those 'after death' stories' are given a rare opportunity to come to Him when the majority won't have that choice, and no, you can't choose to do that to yourself. Only God can choose that. There are individuals who have written their life story about what had happened to them, and if they are to be believed then one should know that God is REAL, and the choice is REAL as well.
