How do you write like someone is coughing?

Hi here is an example.

"My story is awesome"he said while coughing.

The best way to show a character is doing something is to have them do what people do when they're doing whatever it is. People cough all the time -- think about what you do when you cough and write how that looks and sounds.

"He put his hand to his mouth and coughed deeply. It sounded like his chest was full of water, and my own throat hurt just listening to him."
