A gondala is an enclosed "box" that holds, on average, 4 to 8 people. The gondala detatches from the lift cable to load and unload its passengers. It does this so the car will move slowly enough for the skiiers to get out/on and not slow down the cars on the rest of the line. A cable car or tram usually only runs in two's and holds alot more people.
