Hela cells, derived from Cervical cancer cells taken from Henrietta Lacks in 1951, are typically cultured in a controlled laboratory environment using a nutrient-rich medium, such as Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM), supplemented with fetal bovine serum (FBS) and antibiotics to prevent contamination. They are maintained at 37°C in a humidified atmosphere with 5% CO2. Regular subculturing is performed to maintain cell growth and viability, usually every 2-3 days when the cells reach 70-80% confluence.
