When did UNC join the ACC?

The University of North Carolina (UNC) joined the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in 1953. As one of the founding members of the conference, UNC has played a significant role in its development and success, particularly in Basketball and other sports. The ACC has since become one of the premier athletic conferences in the United States.
