Why did Henry choose lady Jane grey?

Henry chose Lady Jane Grey as his successor because he wanted to prevent the Catholic Mary, who was next in line for the throne, from becoming queen and returning England to Catholicism. Despite being young and lacking experience, Jane was Protestant and had a strong claim to the throne through her grandmother, Mary Tudor.
