Does a Passat need a block heater?

A block heater is used to keep a shut off engines oil warm and fluid in sub zero temps for subsequent starting. Unless you live where it snows constantly and your tongue does stick to a metal post; chances are you don't need one. Todays multi viscrosity oils will do the trick; such as 10W-30.
