Religion is not important because it serves no purpose. Anything religion offers may be substituted by secular procedures. It segregates groups and gives people another way to be different from each other. Good deeds can be done without religion, prayer has never been shown to work in double blind studies, religion doesn't make people more moral. This can be seen by prison populations which show that religious people make up a higher proportion of prison inmates as opposed to non-believers. Religion causes credulity in humans. People will believe an old book written 2000 years ago and claim that scientific discoveries based on evidence are wrong. This is damaging to our society and keeps us from reaching our potential. The only purpose religion serves is to help people cope with their fear of death. However, irrational illusions are not the best way to cope. You should value the time you have on Earth and make every moment and person count.

Then what does happens when you die? Einstein. The Bible that was written 2,000 years ago is absolutely flawless, it full filled 300 prophesies to the T. In order for you to even have thought, you've had to have been created by someone who has thought. There is no one like you, you are one of a kind, and Jesus loves you, he did not create you to have a mediocre life. But to be a blessing to others and love your enemies, and lay your life down for others. When you think your smart or something great, you are nothing in God's eyes, when you think you are nothing, you are great in God's eyes. God's ways are perfect. Psalms 18:30 He knew you before you were born, and he knew that you were going to say "Oh those people and their 2,000 year old book," Before the Earth was even created. Psalms 139. And still he doesn't want you to perish after the way you speak. Romans 10:9 and 10. Psalms 14:1 says "Only a fool says there is no God! People like that are worthless, they are heartless and cruel and never do right." That is the Word of God. Religion is man made, where men and women do countless rituals over and over again every day. Expecting God to be pleased, all of it is worthless. God desires a relationship with him, just to speak to him and honor him and acknowledge him and thank him for all he does. And give him the glory for all your talents and blessings and love others without merit! Religion, God never made. And he does not like it, a personal relationship with him he loves and honors.

The Bible is not proven to be divine. It is no different from any other religious book. Quoting Psalms is useless unless you can prove that the book is divine. You cannot use quotes from a book to prove the validity of a book. This is called a circular argument. Supporters of Zeus believe texts written about him. Hindu's have an entirely different religion. You are unable to prove that one religion is the true religion because you automatically start with 1.) "Miracles", 2.) "Answered Prayers", 3.) Holy books, etc, etc. All religions have the same claims. You either accept that you've proven all religions simultaneously or that none of them have been proven. The above answer favoring a god is just pointless poetry. They believe saying "god" and "love" and "relationship" enough times will prove their point. When we look objectively at the beliefs of humans throughout history, we see that religion is a substitution for thinking because it provides simple "answers" and gives people a sense of safety. Neither is proof of the existence of a god. You can be a great person without religion by valuing life and respecting others. In fact, many religions preach hate. Read any religious book, especially the Bible. You are commanded to stone people and learn that some people are evil. People say this is misinterpreted, but they never claim that the parts they agree with are misinterpreted. Funny how only the offensive parts are "misinterpreted".
