Why are some New Yorker's so arrogant?

Here are some possibilities: 1) They've grown up with the hype that NY is the center of the world and they've taken it personally. 2) In defense of them they are ostracized for their unique accent and melodramatic and loud mannerisms. This makes them insecure and they compensate with a superiority complex.
