How long do gladiators train for?

Gladiators in the beginning were used only for man/animal conflicts. Entertainment, mostly. It was much later when the cold was coming that they turned the sport into survival. As the skills necessary were generally in the upbringing of every manchild, training was usually left to the competitors. You train as much as you need to train, no more. The better you were, the longer you survived. Even though medicine in Rome at this time was far advanced, some men suffered from wounds they knew were fatal. Better to die a hero than a fraud. It all depends on how good of a gladiator you are some times it could take days some weeks others months and some even years before they are good enough.
