At what age can a child safely operate a sewing machine with parental guidance?

There really isn't a set age for that. If the child is thoroughly taught the child may be permitted to use the machine without supervision. Mistakes happen during sewing which is inevitable. However if the child displays they can handle the machine and not get injured they should be fine.
