What causes cylinder taper?

Taper is the wear of the cylinder bore that causes that bore to be cone shaped or "tapered"

This caused by several factors including:

• Fuel washing oil off the cylinder walls
• The side forces created by the operation of the piston against the crank through the connecting rod
