What kinds of feathers do Indians wear?

One kind of feather that Indians wear is a black and white feather with a stripe in the middle.

Most people assume it is that type of feather, an Eagles feather, because early photographers would pose Native American's with pre-made head dresses. The purpose of a head dress was to signify honor, rank and ultimately to block sun from the Native's face.
